During a casual catch-up one of her co-workers mentioned how she takes things way too seriously and maybe that’s the root cause of all her life problems. This made her reflect on the countless situations that she had burdened with the weight of seriousness.
It never occurred to her how she was getting caught in the perpetual web of seriousness – some challenging events demanded that, and some didn’t. The varied circumstances of her life were dealt with the same gravity regardless of its nature resulting in stress, frustration and also got the better of her.
In hindsight, the mentally draining office politics, disagreement with her close friend and some relatives, match-making sessions by her aunt and the judgmental neighbour, weren’t worth fussing over for days on end. In the larger scheme of things even her relationship with him wasn’t worth worrying about so much.
Every time his uncalled behaviour hurt her feelings she went on a self-tormenting trip rather than abandoning the depressing situation – situations which could have been just laughed off.
While taking the sip of the hot espresso she told her colleague, “You are right. I needed to readjust my perspective about him rather than taking him seriously. Anyways, as they say only hospitals should have serious people.” Both of them couldn’t stop laughing…
