‘Letting go of the past’ has been echoing in her ears umpteen number of times. Since the past three months, she had been struggling with all tried and tested methods to release the past.
But, after meeting disappointments over and over again she drew her conclusion, ‘When you can’t get over something then learn to live with it.’ She was plagued by her past because the memories of her rocky connection kept recirculating in her mind and all her energy was being spent on trying to limit those memories and thoughts.
But, she couldn’t mark the flaw in her thinking – it wasn’t the memories but her emotional reaction to them that was making her relive her past every day.
Rather than trying so hard to dump the past she needed to comprehend her pain and suffering. It took some rumination before she figured that when dreadful things happen you shouldn’t try to forget them as the same past can prevent you from walking into the same mistake again.
She felt that if the past can be enclosed in some deep corner of her heart and if she can restrict the spillover of her past on her present then living with the past is possible. But with a warning, ‘Live with the past should not be an equivalent of re-creating the past.’
