After two months of no contact when he approached her in the smoking zone at work she was taken by surprise. Her heart started racing when he waved at her but, his ‘hey’ wasn’t meant to be a conversation starter. It was a mere work-related brief interaction.
Being true to her civil nature she reciprocated to the dry one-minute interaction with a smile. It was not his approach that startled her but rather the ease with which he interacted; as if nothing happened between them.
A couple of months after this instance, a Whatsapp notification from him asked her to run through a client’s pitch and share feedback.
It appeared to be a bulk message sent out by him. She was infuriated with herself for sending an instant reply to the guy who had made her wait for hours before replying to a simple text.
She going out of her way to assist him had become an expected norm. Sadly, his exit from her life had also not changed anything on that count. This made her ponder, had her niceness became her weakness?
